Based on the teachings of yoga master BKS Iyengar, who was listed by Time Magazine as one of the most influential people of the 20th Century, Iyengar yoga is one of the most widely practiced forms of yoga throughout the world. The practice of Iyengar Yoga begins with learning the art and science of asana (yoga postures). BKS Iyengar left his body on August 20, 2014 after devoting almost 80 years of his life to the practice and teaching of yoga. He helped to revive the art, science and philosophy of yoga in India and spread the practice throughout the world. BKS Iyengar authored many texts on yoga, including the definitive works Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, and Light on Life. One of his many contributions to the tradition of yoga is his use of yoga therapy to help countless of people with various illnesses, limitations, medical conditions, and diseases.
