About Marla

Marla, a Senior Intermediate level Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, is based in Los Angeles where she is on the faculty of the three-year Teacher Training Program of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California. She leads workshops and trainings throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Marla visited India for the first time while doing research for a degree in Buddhist Philosophy and has since returned numerous times for yoga studies including a year of study in Pune, India with B.K.S. Iyengar, his daughter, Geeta Iyengar and son, Prashant Iyengar. She continues to study annually with the Iyengars.

Marla was highlighted by Yoga Journal Magazine as one of 21 in the next generation of yoga teachers helping to “shape the future of yoga.” She has been involved with medical research studies at UCLA on yoga for depression, anxiety and IBS and created the first yoga therapy content to be incorporated into the curriculum of the David Gefffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Marla is a writer contributor for Yoga Journal Magazine and was the 2009/2010 author of the Basics column. She served as the President of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States and is currently a member of the national certification committee.
